phase ii: site development
Phase II will level the site around the structure, add utilities, sidewalks and ramps, guttering, exterior lighting, and a driveway and parking lot.
September 16, 2016. 400 tons of fill dirt have been donated to the project. Dirt will be used to level the site and protect the foundations for the winter.
October 28, 2016. Our project sign has been installed. Paid for with a Carroll White REMC Operation Roundup grant, the sign was designed by The Arts Guild, a group of student artists lead by Carroll High School art instructor Branden Apitz. The sign displays the logos of all the organizations that have provided financial support for the project to date. There is plenty of room to add more bars and logos! For a list of sponsors, click on the Sponsors and Partners tab.
In the background we see that the fill dirt has been graded. Background left, in the shadow, is where the Town of Flora ran the utilities to the building. The project contractor, Coomler Contracting, did the interior
utility work.

December 5, 2016. The Town of Flora works to finish running utilities to the building.
December 5, 2016. Coomler Contracting is in the process of hauling stone to the site. It will be used to winterize the foundation. 100 tons of stone were generously donation by US Aggregates. They will give the project a discount on the remaining stone needed for the driveway and parking lot.
June 19, 2017. Mountains of dirt delivered to the site. This will be used to finish leveling the site, after which the drive and parking lot will be installed. Utilities are in place.
August 27, 2017. Last week our contractor began moving fill dirt to finish excavating the site. We have the beginnings of the driveway in place.
October 15, 2017. We have a lawn! The project bought the seed. Atlee Oyler (Town of Flora) did the planting.
October 11, 2017. We are thrilled to announce that the project received a North Central Health Services Capital Grant, administered by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, in the amount of $40,850.00. These funds will finish the exterior of the building by allowing us to add sidewalks and handicapped accessible ramps, guttering, and exterior lighting. This will substantially complete Phase II of the project.
March 2, 2018. We placed our first engraved brick order recently. A "test" brick arrived yesterday and was the brick ordered by Lisa and Andy Eikenberry (Eikenberry Fine Furniture, Flora). We appreciate their donation! These are very nice-looking bricks. The rest of the order will be delivered at the end of this month. They will be part of the sidewalk system at the depot. Work will begin this spring.
April 2, 2018. Pretty exciting to see this semi coming up the street! It is delivering our first engraved brick order.
Doesn't look very big, but this skid contains 47 bricks and weighs 294 pounds!
It's like Christmas in April! The shipment was unloaded outside the building. It was opened, bricks checked and carried by hand into the depot, three at a time.
All bricks were delivered intact, everything spelled correctly. These are going to look GREAT in the sidewalk surrounding the depot. Donate and request a brick through this website (one brick per $100 donated).
Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Coomler Contracting moved equipment to the site. On Wednesday the frame for the sidewalk was being built. Sidewalks and ramps, exterior lighting, and gutters will be added by the end of June.
May 17, 2018. The first sections of sidewalk were poured today. The rectangular area in the top photo is one of the sections in which the engraved bricks that are a fundraiser for this project will be placed.
June 3, 2018. The sidewalks and handicapped accessible ramps have been installed. The audio is not the greatest on this little video, but enjoy the tour!
We received a North Central Health Services Capital Grant, administered by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, to complete the exterior of the depot. Work included sidewalks and ramps, lighting, and guttering. We will also be placing engraved bricks in two sections of the sidewalk.
With the addition of the first installation of engraved bricks in the sidewalk system, Phase II is complete.
